Judging by the photos and the description, I expected it to be a thicker material. Instead, they're made from very thin jersey (t-shirt) material, but very soft and well weighted for our Southern California summer weather. More like a floating weight but feels like cotton/poly. If you're in a hot climate and have doubts and think they might be too fat (like I originally was), this is a great option. They feel durable and fit very well. My son is 8 1/2, tall/thin, 59 pounds so we're 7-8 for butt. I bought mediums in two colors, the sizes all correspond to each other. My son tried them on and they passed the guard test.
