I just received this today. That's less than expected. It heats up quickly and looks pretty well built. I used a cheap pancake mix to try and made about a dozen to try. As long as I'm happy with it. it didn't seem to overheat and nothing "scary" was happening, like sparks or fire. although I will turn it off after each use. I bought this waffle because it looks like something that can be fixed. Unlike the other guys with big plastic parts that aren't meant to be fixed, it looks like I can take this apart and figure out how to get it working again if I ever need it. (out of warranty of course) After cleaning I made about a dozen wafers and threw away the first two as a cleaning method to make sure there was something left on it with those wafers. The non-stick coating is peeling off or something. When the first two were okay, we ate the rest at a celebratory waffle feast. Every waffle was perfect and far exceeded all expectations. I was expecting to mess up a few until I get it right, but no. It was easy and cleaning was pretty easy. it would be easier if it didn't overflow. In general I would say this is still a win. will do it again tomorrow. If at any point I encounter a disaster I will receive an update.
