Turns out the thread doesn't just because the package looks identical. I should have read the description more carefully as I thought it was the same as the previous order I received from the Gum "Expanding" thread. It was pretty good stuff (not Ultra Oral B, but no worse than dental floss). It's garbage. This style ("band"?) just doesn't do anything because there's no friction. It's even difficult to hold onto your fingers because it's so slippery. Rinsing with water is probably just as effective at removing plaque.
