Before trying this oval ring I thought I would really notice it and it can be a distraction on tricky trails. It's not relevant. When you ride with this oval ring, you won't notice when you pedal. That's good, it doesn't feel weird and doesn't interfere with the transmission. It allows me to clear steep slopes and technical areas that I haven't cleared before. Also, the main reason I tried the oval ring was the condition of my knees. After several knee operations, I have severe arthrosis in my knees, which often leads to knee pain after mountain biking with many climbs. This oval ring has visibly reduced knee pain after riding. This is a big win for me! I haven't found any downsides to using the Absolute Black oval chainring and there are many good reasons to use it.
