I've tried battery powered LEDs but if you forget the light and leave it on the batteries will die quickly. This is a USB plug, so bring a USB extension cable if you need a power outlet. Very easy to assemble. There is so much plastic these days that you would expect a cheap case for just about $16 for any device. They're aluminum, and whoever put the kit together knew that some people need things in weird places. There are magnets under the aluminum, and if you're mounting something that's non-magnetic or ferrous, you'll get little metal washers and sticky pads.
