UPDATED: Excellent quality, price and range, but.

It took me some time to decide which cameras I wanted. One of the great perks for me is that I work for the CID in law enforcement, so in addition to reviews and videos, I see all the crap out there. Seriously, cameras are incredibly useful if you carefully invest in quality and place and place them where they're useful. It's crazy how many people mount cameras so far away that you lose every detail or tilt them to capture the sky, wall or spotlight. Router, price and lots of comparison videos (check out Lifehackster on Youtube, great resource). I received 2 today and received their settings. Pretty simple, although their app could use a bit of tweaking to save the user time without the extra steps. I assembled them and walked around with a stool to see where the best spot would be before installing them. One of them overlooking the cars and driveway and the other I wanted in the woods for the interesting wildlife that can often be found behind our property. The signal strength was impressive. The forest camera is about 40 meters from my home, and my Apple Airport base station is about 5 meters from the outside wall. There are about 25 feet of wood between the chamber and the open courtyard. Depending on the application, I show the full power of Wi-Fi! So far, so good. Now the only downside so far: motion detection. I tried walking in the driveway several times and zigzagged sideways as I moved forward. I had to get within 10 to 12 feet before the camera went off. It was daytime and after dark. This worries me as it only covers the near side of a car. I'll keep testing it, but this lack may be the deciding factor. UPDATE: Another major downside I found is that there is no integration or tech support plans with third party services like IFTTT, Apple HomeKit or GoogleHome. So you can automate when the cameras are idle. Your only options are to set a specific schedule in the app or manually turn PIR on or off when you're home, all or nothing. I also set up their paid cloud recording 2 days ago, "tethered" the camera to both cameras and I haven't seen the video on my account yet. The trigger distance hasn't improved either, I'm still only getting 10-12 feet at maximum sensitivity. It doesn't even work when my car pulls into the driveway, it doesn't work until I get out and walk almost to the garage. I really wanted to like them, but today I'm going to initiate a return and request a refund for the cloud upgrade.

Pros
  • Sturdy workmanship
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
