I have never done plumbing repairs. I opened it, turned off the water in the toilet, threw some towels behind the toilet and got to work. It was very easy to install, the instructions are well written and my toilet is quieter now. All round perfect product. I have a few comments I would like to make about the instructions. The instructions say you need a sponge and scissors. I never needed scissors. To deal with the remaining water in the tank, I used towels. Equipment used by me but not mentioned in the instructions: Vise. You will come in handy during this project. If the screws on your toilet are too tight to loosen by hand, you'll need something like a vise to loosen and tighten those screws. Even if you're not repairing a toilet, buy a bench vise anyway. They are practically everywhere in the house. Mirror. I used a mirror with a stand to see the bottom of the toilet. I used my wife's makeup mirror. It worked great! (Don't tell her.) Anyway, I didn't time this fix, but it took less than an hour, and (mind you) I have no experience with this sort of thing.
