I ended up getting a 200 watt heater (version) for my 40 gallon grow tank. After a few days we managed to heat the water and keep it at the right temperature of around 80 degrees. What I'm saying is that to get to 80 feet I had to increase the actual heater reading to 82 feet. I mean, look, these things aren't perfect and you can't expect that from a $25 heater, but this thing works fine for me. I've had numerous tank heaters over the years and none have been perfect. Think of all the variables involved: where in the house is your tank located, what climate do you live in, etc. I recommend buying a heater with a 'nearest' rating. For example, a 200w heater is rated for 50 gallons (my tank is 40 gallons). The heater itself is thin, which is a good thing; It was easy to use. The cable could be a bit longer, the Walmart extender solves this problem. I'm not giving 5 stars because like I said I haven't seen the perfect heater yet, but it's a good choice. I would buy it again.
