Problem solved and cheaper than some alternatives

My parents have an old house with an original 30 year old sink, faucet and faucets to connect to the washing machine. The faucet was so old that the brass was beginning to rust and the handles could hardly be turned. In the plumbing just above the faucet were a series of tees, elbows, and short pipes that were supposed to act as water hammer dampeners but were long gone, if they were doing anything at all. When they bought a newer washing machine, there was a definite problem with water hammer when the water valve in the washing machine closed. I recently replaced a sink, faucet, valves and hoses all at once with Sharkbite fittings. I was planning on cutting out the existing "drainer" pipe and using a Sharkbite drain but then I saw that. They're half the price of the Sharkbite and since they screw straight onto the back of the washing machine I can easily exchange them at any time. Also, I figured if they don't do anything, I can just delete them. So I installed them. They unscrewed and connected to the hoses with no problems or leaks. For the next two loads of laundry, I tried to pay attention and sat in the living room, directly over the washing machine. To be honest I didn't hear the rumble in the pipes on the floor above at all. Unlike before, when I didn't realize the washing machine was running until I heard the hammer, I didn't realize the washing machine was running the entire time until the end-of-cycle beep sounded. So they seem to be working very well. Advantages: Easy installation, easy replacement, good value for money, reasonable delivery time. Cons: Longevity compared to a more expensive model (but half the price and easy to swap out so no real downside).
