I have suffered from old, dull graters for many years. Now that I'm serious about cooking, the old grater just wouldn't cut it anymore. It's time for an upgrade. I chose this particular model after seeing it in action with my son. This grater is extremely versatile - each side has a different purpose, from citrus peels to ultra-coarse for soft cheeses. There's a removable plastic bottom that holds grated materials and provides a non-slip base; it can also be used to grate ginger. The ginger grater works exactly as described: it grinds fresh ginger and leaves behind fibers. I use this function often. The knives are very sharp, so handle them carefully. It gets tasks done really fast! I hand wash thoroughly as recommended by the manufacturer, but others say it can be washed in the dishwasher. It's not really a problem to wash your hands as the holes are big enough to get in for a proper cleaning. Although this grater is expensive, I think it's worth the extra cost - it's strong, sharp, gives me lots of grating/cutting options, and works great.
