Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ High-Quality TYC 700272 Ford Replacement Blower Assembly: Efficient Air Circulation for Optimal Comfort by Dan Buycks

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Installation is complicated (update)

I bought this to replace a broken one in my 2013 Ford Escape with dual electronic climate control. Due to the design, the motor must be turned outwards a few degrees for the built-in tongue to engage. The engine itself is on the driver's side, with the fan on the passenger side. The entire blower unit emerges on the aisle side (two-person operation). To take the old one out, you actually stick a couple of fingers inside the fan wheel to grab the motor and turn it clockwise. To insert a new one, you must do the same thing counterclockwise. However, this TYC's impeller design doesn't have any vent holes or anything to stick your fingers in - it's a one-piece molded plastic disc. This forced me to remove the fan wheel prior to installation - a bit tricky if you don't want to damage the bearings. I did this and it was then easy to grab the motor to keep it running until the tab clicked into place. But then I had to reach out and reinstall the wheel and its clamp. I'm just letting you know what to expect. After all that, the fan vibrates a bit on the top two speeds, but it's not too bad that I got it all over with so quickly. Winter is already here and if it gets worse I can hold out until warmer weather. I'm only giving it three stars because of those two things. It will take years to judge reliability. UPDATE: It looks like it only took seven months to assess reliability. We're having a summer heatwave right now and two days ago I got in my car and the fan wasn't working at all. The control panel showed the air conditioner was on and the fan was running at full speed, but the fan was not working. Today I removed the glove box to see the fan wheel. I reached out with a long screwdriver to see if I could spin the fan. As soon as I moved the fan, it started working. I don't know what the problem is and I don't care. In a job this complex, first impressions matter. I ordered a Motorcraft unit to replace and will never use TYC again. All of this reduces his rating to one star.
