I'm a firefighter and bought Gear Keeper RT4-5602 Retractable Tool Strap with Carabiner, 16 oz tool limit, 36 inches long for work. I figured a retractable cord would help with microphones, small flashlights, or knives. Well the description says it can hold tools up to 1lb. I didn't pull it. Even when I pulled it out further, it had to pull back and then still fell out again. I liked the size of this model because the metal clip is bigger than the plastic clip and it attaches better to my gear. but that's basically useless. I also bought a standard Gear Keeper 325-44112 CB retractable mic mount at the same time and it's great. It holds all my knives and flashlights and doesn't retract at all. The only downside of this is the small plastic hook. So if you're choosing between the two, avoid 5602.
