Review on 🐠 Fluval Sea Mini Protein Skimmer for 5-10 Gallon Tanks - Black (14324) by Sarah Dionne

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Super quiet and great performance - if you install it correctly!

I gave 5 stars because this is the absolute best of the nano skimmers (and I've tried 4), although it took me a while to adjust and I made a few mistakes with the first one . So I judge by the curve :) FIRST: Don't repeat my mistake! I have a Fluval Evo 13.5 so I read the instructions too quickly and figured I didn't need to install the brackets that hold the front and back of the skimmer body together (the front and back of the skimmer are separate so you can clean them be able). easy). ) because it already matched my rear camera perfectly. Because these parts were NOT installed, the skimmer became very noisy as the skimmer pump caused these parts to vibrate against each other. Once I understood the problem, it was too late; I already threw away the rest of the extra parts. So I ordered another one just to get these two pieces - they are so important! The skimmer was much quieter after installation, and about 2 weeks later it was even quieter when it broke in (about 15dB at 4ft measured with an app on my phone). One setup issue is to ensure the skimmer is positioned as far away from the rear glass of the tank as possible (away from the display/tank overflow) so that the front inlet has enough room to draw water from the tank overflow. . I used a length of air hose and stuck it between the skimmer and the front of that rear chamber just to push the skimmer away from the tank overflow. It was a trick to get him to slide properly. After I adjusted the water level in the chamber even more (biggest knob on top) and opened the air to about 80% (smallest knob on top), it cleaned the chamber very effectively, got quiet and I was very satisfied. with this. [Tip: To set the desired air level, fully close the small knob counter-clockwise, then open it clockwise about 2-3 finger turns.] You want the water/surface level to swirl straight into the bottom of the collection cup. If distress arises in the drip tray chamber, it is too high and you will get too wet and it will likely overflow in a jiffy; Lower it so that the waterline/turbulence is exactly level with the bottom of this cup. He will not skim immediately. Give it a few hours to start producing those big bubbles and lean mass). The hardest part was getting him to dial the number. But once it's done, you don't have to touch it anymore. If you do water changes or pour anything in your tank, it will stop rising for a while - don't touch the dials! He'll start skimming again in a few hours. Once you enter it you will be impressed. I am sure.
