Mine arrived with a small dent in the base. It looks like it was made that way and was not caused by damage in transit. The dent was small enough not to disturb anyone. But it bothered me. I tested this holder with a bounty roll. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If you don't rip the sheet off at the right speed and angle, everything will slide off my granite countertop. The only way to keep it from sliding to the floor is to hold the base with your hand. Serious? If you need to hold the paper towel holder with your hand while tearing off the sheet, you may not need to use the holder at all. I believe there are three things a manufacturer can do to improve this product: 1. Weight the base. . I don't know how they weighed the base. But what they used wasn't heavy enough. Perhaps a cast iron insert would do the job. 2. Use a grippier substance on the underside of the base. 3. Make the resistance (tension) of the mechanism adjustable. As for my last suggestion, I think adjustable tension is absolutely necessary. Different brands of paper towels tear perforations with different forces. Perhaps a less durable paper towel would tear more easily. And I assume that with prolonged use it may be necessary to increase the tension of the mechanism as it wears out. I was very disappointed with this product. I sent it back to Revain for a refund.
