As a scuba diver and kayaker, I've had about a dozen "wet socks" over the last 20 years - like the Meijer/Target ones, usually with a mesh top and hard rubber bottom. The panels tend to peel off, the upper fabric usually tears, and they don't last very long. I liked the true "sock" format they had with the rubber outsole dipped into the rubber at the toe itself. Comfortable. Continuous. The sock piece hugs my ankle and doesn't stretch or slip - and I've used them kayaking 50 times this year (and about a 600ft dirt road from our house to get to the kayaks). They are soft and comfortable and I haven't noticed any wear on them. The rubber bottom offers protection from stepping on acorns and gravel, but not as much as wearing shoes. You still feel something, but I'm fine. It doesn't hurt when you step on it. And they stay securely in place whether you hit the water after kayaking, hiking, or swimming. I can really and warmly recommend them.
