Review on RJ Camera Camcorder Interface Universal by Randy Brimmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Working but barely

Here's the problem if you don't know. Sony's so-called multi-interface shoe is embedded in the camera body in the new range of Handycam cameras. You can't fit a regular hot shoe or cold shoe mount into this thing like you can on a DSLR. Your accessory (microphone, light, etc.) must be designed to fit into the camcorder's shoe and then snap into place like a Sony-branded accessory; or you need something like this adapter. The idea of this adapter is solid, but there are flaws in the execution. This adapter fits well, but as other reviewers have said, the knurled ring doesn't lock the adapter tightly to the handheld camera. It offers you a mount for a mic or third-party flashlight, but it's wobbly and certainly won't stand up to a harsh environment like filming your next mountain bike ride. I find using this adapter is better than having to buy a Sony mic if you already have a better mic from Audio-Technica or Bower, but that's about it. Again it's only a little over $10 so can't really complain. Sony should provide an accessory adapter that allows you to actually use third-party accessories. In the meantime, the choice is yours: this thing or nothing.
