Regular RCA plugs have flat metal pins on the outside so they can be mated with an RCA jack even if it is installed in the device. In this particular product, the outer pins are not flat sheets, but a thick piece of metal that tapers to the size of the connector body. This means that these connectors can only be used on protruding RCA connectors, not on pluggable ones. The connectors are undoubtedly sleeker and more modern than the old cables, and they are, but a sleek cable that I can't connect to my turntable is useless.
