I have used this standard cassette player for many years; Eventually gave it away, bought another used here at Revain. Too bad there is no counter. Still EXCELLENT for half-speed cartridges (I have 2000-4000 of them), plays well. It's best to use old-fashioned headphones, not those stupid earbuds, when listening at 30,000 feet. Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1680 power supply with the smallest tip (align the + sign on the tip of the cord) saves you the hassle of using batteries. Use the 3V setting on the adapter. Recording? I've taken many recordings with it over the years, no noticeable hiss or hum; the sound of the air is heard as if absorbed in a light breeze. This is not the best size for recording (the device is too wide). I have five half-speed recorders (plus two Radio Shacks, don't use them, an amazing 1980's Superscope and a modified Panasonic); I use it most of the time, especially when traveling. So I gave it away because the newer versions didn't seem that good (but maybe they are) and replaced them with used ones. However, Sony offers other models here at Revain, so check them out.
