I've looked around I needed this black tan color to go with it and at the 'biggest' store it was only 1 x 1 x 1 and about $25. So I wanted more for the footrest. I will say it will NOT support my weight to sit on but I bought a larger one from a furniture store that is >$350 but it matches the color. You can feel it compared to another or my sofa and my 2 seater (they are all leather) and say it's plastic - yes, but it's a good footstool. What I don't like is the smell. God it was strong and hard, that plastic smell. It was sealed so I couldn't tell until I removed the plastic. I couldn't stand the smell so I washed it off with a damp cloth and soap, then washed it all off by putting it outside in the sun. and the wind with a strong wind on it, and after 6 hours the "smell" was acceptable. If I had to define an odor it would be formaldehyde, which is most commonly used in the manufacture of PVC plastics. But just wipe/wash it off, take it outside for a day and the smell will go away. Now it's just because I wanted the footrest to be larger than 1 x 1 x 1 inch so I could live with that. It's good for blankets or small pillows, just don't use it as a seat (if you're >100lbs).
