Review on Cezanne Multicolor Professional Sketching Coloring by Dawn Fischer

Not as creamy as previous sets but beautiful

I have an old set of Cezanne pencils that I have used over time. I got them as a backup. To my surprise, some things are different. Tin on hinges. The glass comes packed in a white cardboard box and a plastic bag. This is important in case your pens are delivered in the pouring rain and are left on the box without a plastic lid like mine. PENCILS They are marked with a number and a color on one end. Each pencil does not have a color name, but there is a color chart and coloring sheet that contain those color names. I prefer to have them in pencil too. PROPERTIES As you probably already know, every colored pencil works differently depending on the pigment used and how it reacts with the binders to make the pencil. This is no exception. However, I wonder what has changed. HARDNESS I made a sample chart for you but what I did was the first part of each color, I used the original color I had from Cezanne which is a few years old. On the right, I used a new color in this set, which I'm reviewing here. I started coloring lightly and then developed four layers at the ends of each color and pencil. What I found was interesting. The sticks in the new set are firmer and not as creamy as the previous ones. The colors are also slightly different for some pens. You can't tell many, but some are pretty obvious. WHO COULD LIKE THIS? It's more of what I would call average or lower mid-range of the brand's pencil quality, depending on the color. Several flowers were almost scratched. Many of the colors were still quite pretty, so not all were difficult. I would say if you like coloring books and hobby drawings this would be a good thing. COLOR CHOICE That's where this brand sits on the high side of things. Their color choices are more artist-focused than many other brands. They have colors that are similar to paint colors like Hooker Green, Sup Green, etc. Not every color is a bright candy and stings on the eyes. I love it in these pens. BOTTOM LINE These pencils work great. In some colors they're not as creamy as the old Cezanne pencils I used, but still subtle. If you need a hobby pen or something to color in, that's fine. The choice of colors is based more on artistic colors than on bright primary school colors. MY RATING IS FOUR STARS. Despite the difference in performance of many newer pencils compared to the older pencils I have from this brand, they are still a decent set depending on what you intend to use them for.

Pros
  • All pens are color coded and numbered for easy color identification; color chart included; Modern adhesive materials allow paint to be applied quickly to paper, cardboard or canvas; Use on a variety of art paper or notepads;
Cons
  • New competitors have arrived
