I searched through pages and pages of listings, and finally bought this one because it was sleek and long. That's about all the metal one has going for it. It doesn't open envelopes so much as it mangles them. I took mine to the grinder and discovered not only was it dull, it was plated, so now I have a sharp but ugly letter opener that makes me mad every time I use it. I decided to try the small plastic black ones, and same issue. The razor inside is angled wrong so that you have to hold it one way to get it into / under the flap and then change the angle of attack to get it to start cutting, and then change the angle of attack back to the original position to get it to continue to cut. Overall, both very poorly designed. Bought a battery operated letter opener, which arrived today, and while not sexy, it does its job quickly, steadily and neatly.
