I'm 5ft 11", somewhat athletic (big hips and skinny shins if that makes sense), I wear a medium size. It fits me well and is snug on my legs but gets a bit lost on the bottom of my legs. Pros: It really keeps you warm. Just did a 30 minute ride on a rainy day in 40 degrees (a bit harsh) and came back perfectly dry and warm. The construction is also very solid, which is what I would expect from $200 pants. It came with a pair of knee pads, CE Level 1 (so padded version) and a pair of thigh pads (no armor but pads). I see them work on 30 degree days especially if you have thermal base layers. Note: First of all, the waterproof layer is under the tactile layer. So you can still feel watery, especially in heavy rain. It feels like your skin is being pressed against a plastic bag of water. I could barely feel it while riding, but I definitely felt it when I wasn't riding my bike. This shouldn't be a problem as most people change their pants when they arrive at their destination. Cons: only one thing, the legs are too far apart. I was wearing a pair of leather boots and the leg openings are not narrow enough to fit snugly in the boots. So the wind was blowing from below, which made my lower legs a little cold. I suspect Alpinestars want you to have a pair of hiking boots or something to match your pants. But I think if you have a thermal base layer it shouldn't be a big deal.
