This is my first straight razor. So my technique could be as much a cause of my early problems as a razor. It was pretty decent out of the box. I cut it and was able to shave, but the quality of the shave was not very good. I had stubble left over and it seemed like she was tearing her hair out a bit. After a few shaves I decided to refine it a bit. I am a knife lover and have a set of Japanese water stones. A few passes over thin rock changed the situation. I'm very happy with the shave I'm getting now. It's a much smoother shave and doesn't feel. However, as a beginner I'm not sure if this was an improvement in my sharpening or just an evolution in my shaving technique. At some point I want to invest in a higher quality razor and then I can compare.
