This harness is identical to the original harness. I've replaced my watch strap twice so far, which is a little disappointing given the fairly high cost of a replacement strap (the cost of two straps is close to the cost of one watch!) and the durability of the watch, but it does seem like a bit of tinkering too require before it goes off build, so I won't blame him for that - it's really an issue with the watch, not the issue of this particular band.
