Cheap and easy for string lights
Bought a kit to wrap my car roof rack for Christmas and it worked well. The battery compartment wouldn't fully plug in after a week, but a small cardboard disc in the lid fixed that. I kept the battery box in the car so I don't know how waterproof it is, but the light worked fine, even in heavy rain at highway speeds. I think I got about 4 days of battery life with the auto timer and most of the time with constant light.
