Review on Optimal Care Bed Sore Boots by Katie Allen

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Didn't fix my 1100 lb horse's bedsores

My horse is sleep deprived and won't/can't go to bed. The sores on her shackles are caused by her falling asleep on her feet and her legs giving way under her at the shackles. Not pretty. I liked the soft fleece lining and was happy with the concept, but the top Velcro isn't very strong and leaves a loose flap on my standard 1100lb horse. I tried tape on the Velcro but it didn't stick to the neoprene upper. Velcro is a strip only, not a reinforced fastener. The neckline is too big for my horse's large pasterns. Boots do not cover all bed sores that protrude slightly past the middle. The gauze bandage stuck out of the trunk and crawled out after a couple of hours. In general, they did not cope with their task. I can't imagine how these boots would fit a smaller horse. My top closure was as snug as possible and not as tight as an athletic boot. Perhaps with a minor wound they would have avoided cosmetic damage.

Pros
  • Annual probationary period
Cons
  • Negative experience
