As an experienced knitter, I never buy scarves and shawls, and as a spinner, I turn everyone into a fibrous snob; but i have to say i like this scarf which is 60% acrylic, 40% polyester (like mine was labeled) or 100% acrylic like the description says, whatever it is. It doesn't look like plastic at all, and it's thin enough that quite a bit of its bodice wraps a little snugly around your neck without creating uncomfortable bulk, and wide enough that the rest of its width stretches across you. The shoulders are far enough away to act as a shawl. Or you pull a top over your head to avoid wet snowflakes and still cover your shoulders well. I have a feeling this purchase will become my favorite 'naa' here in New England this winter, even indoors included. I just love it when it's with me. And it's thin enough that when I wear it over one shoulder under a down jacket, its width adds a vest-like layer in the front and back without adding lumpy puffs. In other words, it's an extremely versatile fabric. This is a soft fabric, there is nothing spiky about it. Surprisingly comfortable despite being thin which to me means it's pretty much perfect. I bought a gray that actually verges on taupe in most lighting situations, but gray enough that it seems to go with everything. I hope that the other colors are of the same fabric, because then all this description of the properties of the fabric would apply, and if so, I would dare to recommend it as one of those "made in China" super finds. Last but not least, the label doesn't say anything about care and I'm not entirely sure I'll be comfortable with machine washing, but if I will it'll probably be in a large mesh bag and only on the gentle cycle. . And since it's a little crumpled for who knows how long it's been in its cellophane wrapper, it doesn't have much left for my own use. But instead of using an iron I would probably put it in the dryer with a timer set for maybe 10 minutes and hang it up for 5 minutes.
