Not sure how these drawing pens get so many good reviews because they gave me nothing but problems. I'm a rock painter and since my favorite brand is very expensive I tried different brands of markers to find something that was at least decently usable. I have used two cheaper brands along with my favorite brand but some of them are getting dirty and worn out. So I decided to see what else is out there. I found them and they had tons of great reviews so I went for it and bought a few. But I haven't had good experiences with them. First, they should be "okay" and they are far from okay. I noticed that the gold has a pointed tip at the very top, but it is so short and the rest of the tip is so thick that it cannot be used for fine work. (See my last photo.) And the rest is just rounded and quite thick. They might have made sense before I primed them, but given that you have to press the tip to prime them, don't let them crush so easily. Now I could live with it and have painted large areas with it, BUT the ink does not spread well. And yes, I primed them to deflate so the ink flows all the way into the nib. (Like I said, I've used different brands of markers, so I know what I'm doing.) And I keep trying to use them to see if they work better with more use, but I ended up with it just frustrated. The ink just doesn't flow well. I get spiky lines and of course when I press the tip to refill and get more ink I get a puddle. So I'm not sure if the company has changed the markings over the years, or if I've gotten different markings than what's in the great reviews, or if it's a coincidence. I've attached some photos so you can see the tips. In the first photo on the left is a Beric marker, in the middle is a cheaper brand, on the right is a more expensive one. You can see the difference in nib thickness and if you look closely you can also see that the Beric nib has a mottled ink saturation pattern compared to the other two. In the second photo showing the brown, I had to pump it up to fill it well and then run the tip across the paper before drawing lines on the stone. I wanted to show the width of the lines they make. If I were happy to receive them and immediately removed the plastic from about half of them I would return them.
