Review on Wi-Fi router ASUS RT-AC66U, black by Wiktor ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Feel free to buy, for such a price, the quality is simply amazing.

I took it used, without glitches. Most likely just the firmware is already dopilin for a year of sales. I wanted to set up a simple talker for people in the 24 * 7 mode, I had to install an alternative firmware. Now always Mumble works. Over time, I figured out the alternative firmware and abandoned the standard DownloadMaster due to buggy. I put an alternative to Transmission for torrents, and for http I use Pyload. The plans are to hang a webcam to track the child from the phone, computer. A smartphone sees a WiFi signal on the first floor of the house, a router on the 7th. Around the house - enough for the eyes. When copying files from the HDD, the processor is loaded to capacity, or when viewing FullHD content from it. Haven't tried AiCloud yet. VPN naturally loads the processor, but everything is fine. PPTP gives out 40 megabits, OpenVPN 20-25 megabits. DAmazon works great for dnsomatic. Native asus from the same list is often buggy and lies, a stone in their garden. Now I will always go to my router from the outside, even if there are interruptions on DAmazon servers. SSH and Telnet - everything works. I remotely install packages, upload files to rocking chairs. The plans are to fasten Asterisk, and hang a couple of 3G modems through the hub. The headroom is enough for a home with 128 MB flash and 256MB DDR2 RAM and a 600Mhz processor. For a month it hung once. not critical. The connection is stable with the l2tp provider. I use 50% of what he can. AiDisk, DLNA, Printserver are not used. But I feel that the processor may not be enough for this business and there will be problems when I pull something from the USB-HDD. I think that it will be enough for 5 years without thinking about buying a new one, and if there is not enough power when working with hard drives, it is better to take a NAS or the simplest used netbook as a media server or some other stray instead of 12tr for AC68u.

Pros
  • A good signal, the presence of a microSD slot inside the case, alternative firmware, 2 USB, and the appearance does not spoil the mood. VPN server - 30-40 megabits - that's great, you don't need to keep a server for these things. 3tr for used a router and such a filling - you won’t find the best option for your home.
Cons
  • Weak processor for 2 USB. You can't really see Full HD content from a USB hard drive, it doesn't have time to read it. And when a couple of devices pull something from it, the processor chokes. Well, the CPU is rather weak, frankly. AC56u - I cores, AC68U - 2 cores, and this one is in between and neutered. Better take AC56u if the radius of the apartment is enough. And so, a router for the home will go for 3
