So we used portable electric pumps and as long as they work it's just as fast. No batteries to die for, no wires to connect to the car. When the air mattress gets soft, simply inflate it again without leaving the tent. Obviously this is great for all kinds of balls, blowing up pools, starting fires etc. There are so many uses here and with the double acting pump it will pump in a hurry. It's life changing. The only downside for us is that it's quite large and requires some planning to fit in a crowded car. But it's priceless for us, so we make it work. I see other pump reviews differ, and I will say we don't use them a TON. Maybe 3-4 hikes a year (and pools pumping etc.). I've been driving for 2 seasons with no problems. Maybe you would have problems if you used it every day - I don't know.
