Revainrating 2 out of 5

Little experience

I ordered 1 set (of 6) cables to install 5 servers in my home lab. 4 out of 6 worked initially with no problems, while the other two didn't work at all. I went ahead and ordered another set and none of them worked. Apparently one of my servers had cable problems for some reason even though the hardware is identical. I figured no big deal just order a higher quality for what I did and it worked fine. After a couple of weeks, I noticed that my network storage (that's 5 servers 12bay 1u on a distributed filesystem) write speed has dropped to a minimum (write speed is about 50Mbps - yes, bits, not bytes). I was able to determine which server was causing problems and set about trying to figure out the problem with it. I've tried everything including reformatting, replacing OS SSD and storage to no avail. The last thing to do was change the network cable (iperf showed 10 Gb, so I thought it was fine). I unplugged it and plugged in another higher quality fiber optic cable and the 9Gbps write speed was restored immediately. I've lost entire servers due to my distro file system and have never experienced transfer speeds before, but for some reason this cable slowed down all writes to an unacceptable speed. A few days later the same problem appeared on another server. At least this time I knew where to start. Now I've replaced all of those fiber optic cables with better quality cables and threw all 12 in the trash. All other reviews seem to be positive so maybe my situation is unique but thought I'd share anyway. I have never experienced anything like this with data cables of any kind.
