When I use the pink rake it looks brittle but hasn't fallen apart yet. They both do a good job - I have very long, thick, strong hair and it combs through easily with my round brush (I comb it on one side, then I take my hand and twist it as hard as I can and repeat. With a regular brush flat brush is much easier to clean) and I use a black brush to remove smaller particles like dust or dandruff. This seems like the max you have to spend to get something that does everything you need to get a clean hairbrush.
