Have used this combination curtain for over 6 years. Yes, the fabric and plastic curtain will shape over time depending on how often you shower. If you've caught a fabric curtain in the early stages of mold, you can spray it with an antibacterial agent or use vinegar, then clean and rinse the affected area. I've never noticed the mold on the plastic coming off, so I just replace the plastic latch with parts. The bathroom I use is used to take a shower once a day and then the curtain is drawn to its full length and left in a ventilated room. The plastic liner lasts about 3-4 months before I notice mold. Textile lining will last longer unless it comes into prolonged contact with the moldy lining. I have this set on a double rod with another heavy cotton curtain on the outer rod for beauty.
