Review on Optimized Apples to Apples Freestyle Card Game by Chris Tisdale

Revainrating 3 out of 5

An interesting game with some weaknesses.

My kids love this game more than me. It's really simple, but it's a lot of fun at first and quickly fizzles out. To change the pace you can add a house rule, for example the judge chooses the letter all answers must start with. Another thing we do is that it is not the judge who reads all the answers, but the person sitting next to him who reads the answers. This is because kids often pick a winner based on the writer and not the answer itself. My two main complaints are that it only has 6 players. Since I would describe Apples to Apples as a "party game", I would like it if they included some whiteboards. Especially at the retail price of this game considering the whiteboards are just laminated cardboard. To play with more players, you can always give everyone a stack of notes to write down and turn in their answers. My other complaint is that the packaging is terrible. Once you open it, everything is loose in a plastic box, a little big for all the components. Plastic packaging is not suitable for transporting many other games as you cannot stack other games on top. I wish they would just put it in a box.
