Review on Carhartt Womens Shoreline Jacket Regular by Jason Mitts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice jacket but still Carhartt!

This is a quality, very well tailored and designed all purpose jacket but I'm still considering returning it. Why? Because I fell in love with an earlier version of this that my boyfriend has and that earlier version was Gore-Tex and had an amazingly luxurious sheen without sacrificing functionality. You can take it from the slopes to the fishing boat to the theater. (We're Alaskan girls, these things sometimes happen on the same day.) This fabric is definitely flatter and more in line with expected heavier Carhartt fabrics. However, this design is great and the construction is impeccable. I ordered a large and it says size 14-16 and I think it's accurate. It's roomy enough for layering without being too bulky. Windproof cuffs, several roomy pockets, a detachable hood, a long "tail” covering the butt and the total absence of Velcro (I HATE Velcro) make this model a winner. It has NO vents so it won't breathe well if you plan to get super sporty in it, but it has a great lining and the perfect weight - not too heavy, not too light. Do-it-yourself insulating layers for warmth which I prefer. I just miss the shine of Gore-Tex and while I'm sure this fabric works great, it just doesn't create the same luxurious feel. The exposed latches at the top and bottom are also covered in some sort of plastic polymeric material, which sure is handy, but it's not very pretty either. Overall very good value for money. I could still keep it.

Pros
  • 100% polyester mesh inner lining and 100% nylon taffeta lining on sleeves
Cons
  • Almost never
