I walk a lot. So far this belt has worked. I don't hang a lot of heavy things on it, but my pants are holding up well. I don't mind removing the snap piece from the belt to change belts as I like the technology of the belt (easy opening/closing). Holds up well and is still in use. When I got it I smeared the metal with a light machine oil - it just felt like it needed doing and it would probably last longer. All moving parts can be lightly oiled. Will probably never have to be lubricated again.
