It looks like this mask was designed on the right principles but not well thought out. It's a great idea to make a washable, reusable mask out of comfortable fabric that still offers effective protection and design a mask with a pocket to allow for filters that are lighter than a kn95 mask, use less material, much cheaper but just as effective at blocking particles. Ultimately, with long-term mask use, this design remains an effective, comfortable, and cost-effective solution that produces less plastic waste. Too bad it doesn't match the brand. Here are the issues: 1) The material, 95% cotton, 5% X-STATIC nylon, is actually a lightweight jersey, the same as cotton jersey, so open that light can easily be seen through the mesh. It is the least effective type of mask fabric, blocking small particles and offering little to no protection to either the wearer or the wearer (the real reason people should wear masks). The antimicrobial treatment of silver in X-STATIC effectively prevents the growth of various disease-causing organisms, mainly bacteria, in the fabric, reduces its tendency to develop odor and supports it if you are susceptible like me. for skin infections. I've worn t-shirts and underwear made from this material under the gear I wear when I go cross country on my motorcycle. It works pretty well and the treatment lasts for many washes. It almost certainly does not play a role in the effectiveness of this mask, since the tissue itself does not stop anything and the actual goal of the treatment is quite different. However, it does help protect the mask from pimples on the skin, so it's valuable in that regard, provided the nylon is sufficiently dispersed to keep the cotton from supporting microorganisms. 2) The mask comes with filters and has a pocket for it, but the filters and pocket don't integrate well so it's difficult if not impossible to be sure you're breathing through the filter and this is turn the only way this mask can do its job. Filters, when formulated as advertised, can be effective despite being very thin. What you really want is spun polyester, which requires air to flow in a roundabout way through fibers that carry a charge and attract (or repel) particles and trap them as gas molecules pass by. The filters seem to work when I breathe through them and they seem to have the right composition, putting a layer of polyester between foamed cotton (or something else soft and breathable), but I have no other way of analyzing them, as visual. Inspection. 3) The molded cap conforms to the bridge of the nose, but since the filter pouch doesn't fit underneath (assuming you manage to make sure the filter is in place, questionable bet), air flows through and around the underlying knitted mesh , as well as inside, as well as outside. There's no way to fix this unless you breathe in hard enough for the filter to press against your face and create some sort of seal. It will definitely work to prevent mosquitoes from getting into your nose and mouth while cycling or motorcycling without affecting breathing (that open mesh), better than a bandana or respro mask (I've used both), so i need to use this. Filters, if you can find a better mask with a well-designed pocket, can actually work for this purpose, so they're worth considering if you're using something like this. As for the mask, the money is better spent on beer.
