Review on Adjustable Temperature Mi Light Controller by LGIDTECH by Jamie Jenkins

Revainrating 1 out of 5

It's no longer cloudless.

I *USE* am a big fan of MiLight/LimitlessLED/EasyLED/FutLight/MiBoxer. The limit of 4 lamp groups per remote control or Wi-Fi gateway was acceptable as the lighting was controlled entirely over my own network. There is no cloud. No registration. There are no API keys. Just a simple UDP protocol to control lamps through a hub. When one of them blew and the other was nearby, I went straight to Revain and ordered two replacements. While I was able to control these lights with the newer RF remote, I couldn't connect them through my v4 Wi-Fi Bridge. After reading more closely, I realized that I needed a newer bridge. So I bought a new bridge and it arrived today. I was expecting to set it up the same way as before - a web interface on a temporary Wi-Fi network to connect to my home Wi-Fi and then start controlling my new lightbulbs. no Now, the only bridge that works with these bulbs requires you to download an app onto your phone, REGISTER for an account with the company, sign a very comprehensive "Privacy Policy" and TOS, and THEN you can set up your new bridge. The developer API documentation previously published on the LimitlessLED website is now gone, so there is no updated documentation on commands to control lights locally via the bridge - if at all possible. I do NOT want to send packages midway. around the world to control a lightbulb sitting 2 feet away from me. This leaves me at the mercy of this manufacturer's economics, network availability, ethics, and security practices, which I'm not particularly warm or fuzzy about with this company (which can't seem to even decide on a name). I am returning the bridge and lightbulbs and will no longer purchase their products or any other manufacturer who feels they should be the go-to broker for me when running my own home.

Pros
  • 2) Long Control Range: You can control all the lamps within 30 meters without getting close to the lamp and aiming at it from afar.
Cons
  • Out of fashion
