I have just returned from 10 days in Hawaii. my canon lcd went south and i chose this camera mainly for underwater use as a temporary camera. My trip was primarily for marlin fishing, then snorkeling and visiting Volcano National Park. Some reviews indicated that the camera was leaking underwater. I looked at the cover over the memory card and battery and didn't see how well it offers good water resistance. So I didn't use the camera to take pictures underwater. I didn't want to mess up my camera before taking photos of marlin and volcano fishing. So I bought a $27 exposure Fuii disposable camera for $9 that worked great. no video, but at least I have underwater photos. this is my short summary. For normal recordings, the images have become good. The camera struggles with high-contrast shots where there is both a shadow and a bright sun. This is where cheaper cameras fall. More pixels doesn't mean better quality. it's all about the size of the CCD itself. Placing millions of pixels on a small CCD results in poor image quality when trying to resolve detail in high-contrast environments. So keep your photos where there is not much shadow and bright light in the picture and you will be fine. 2. I haven't had any battery life issues, but the battery gauge isn't accurate. You can show 3/4 charge and after a few minutes the battery will be empty. The indicator didn't show 1/2 or 1/4 charge, so be careful and take a spare battery with you.3. My biggest complaint was seeing the LCD in the sunlight. almost impossible unless you have shaded the screen somehow.4. The lens is in the top left corner of the camera when you hold the camera. It's very easy to partially block the lens with your finger because the lens is right where you're holding the camera with your left hand. not sure why the lens was placed there. Due to the difficulty of seeing the image on the LCD, I had several images/videos showing one of my characters. So be careful where you put your fingers on your left hand.4. Sony and Panasonic have the AVCHD video standard, which allows you to record videos of 30 minutes or more. This Fujii camera uses the older MPEG motion standard, which has a 2GB file size limit, allowing you to record around 10-12 minutes. For the money this camera is good. I gave it a 3 because I didn't like the design of the memory and battery covers, the inaccurate battery gauge, and the problems reading the LCD. Also, based on other reviews, it's not very well built with the paint peeling off after a few hours in the water. Image quality was good for low-contrast images. THE BIG PROBLEM WITH THESE HD CAMERAS IS HOW TO BURN YOUR VIDEOS TO DVD. THERE IS NO EASY SOLUTION. NOW WE ARE PERFORMING RESEARCH. YOU CALL FUJII TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND THEY SAY THAT THEY CANNOT HELP YOU WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT BURNING A DVD FROM YOUR CAMERA BECAUSE THIS FEATURE IS LICENSED TO OTHERS. VERY LALMY BECAUSE THEY GIVE THEM A FUNCTION AND THEN DON'T TELL THEM HOW TO FULLY USE IT. IF YOU UNDERSTAND THIS, YOU NEED AN HD OR BLUE-RAY PLAYER TO PLAY YOUR HD DVD AND HDTV. YOU CAN RUN A CABLE FROM YOUR CAMERA TO YOUR HDTV BUT YOU MUST BUY MORE STORAGE IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR VIDEO. AVCHD LITE SEEMS THE BEST OPTION FOR EASY BURNING TO DVD BUT IT IS LICENSED BY SONY AND PANASONIC.
