The seller is trying to get rid of "old and discontinued " items! Caution

I ordered this device after much research and decided it was the best fit for my network. It arrived fairly quickly, but I was immediately concerned when I opened the box and saw that the device was packed in a plain brown cardboard box. This is not the typical Netgear packaging you would expect when purchasing a new product. The next clue was the seal on the packaging that said "Sustainable Packagingโ€. It seemed to me that whoever was selling this product was trying to allay any concerns about this custom packaging by trying to trick customers into believing that Netgear had changed their packaging practices to be more sustainable. Moment like "Ignore the man behind the curtain". It was sealed in an ordinary plastic bag, but as soon as I took it out I noticed the tiniest traces of stains and dust. I usually buy my networking equipment from a retail store and I know what 'new' products should look, smell and feel like. It wasn't. I didn't even bother to plug it in and immediately called Netgear. When I asked them to verify the serial number of this unit they told me it was a 'branded' product and should not be considered new as it was 15 months out of date. I made a purchase last week. They offered me to either return the item and if not accepted they personally fulfilled the warranty and sent me a brand new product made this year. Luckily the seller refunded me for the item and I just went to Best Buy and bought a really 'new' extension cord. If you're getting a really "new" device that should have a gray back (if the back is white, it's old and out of production) then this expansion is great and I'd give it five stars. Due to my issues I paid an additional $10 at the store to have peace of mind, which in this case probably saved me hours if not days of a headache with a faulty "old" product.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Easy to repair
