You laugh?! on keyless systems

I used to think a new key fob should cost between $150 and $250. Perhaps there is no bigger scam to uncover than the CRAZY markup dealers and local locksmiths charging for it. For $20, you get TWO keychains AND two chipped keys. I followed the simple instructions for my 2008 Nissan 350z and within five minutes I had two fully functional key fobs. Here it is. The key fobs appear to be of good quality, all buttons work and the price is amazing. Then I'll see how much the locksmith charges for cutting and encoding the keys because as far as I know the average Joe can't encode the chip. I'll add an update after it's done, but even if it doesn't go smoothly I already feel like I just got a killer deal on keychains. - Update: I took a closer look and managed to cut two keys and encode them for $95. The locksmith even gave me a code so I could make a new key without needing an existing key. The process of coding the chip in the key requires special hardware, so there is no shortcut on this page, unlike the extremely easy to program key fobs. Total for me for 2 keychains and 2 keys $115. We're marking this as a bargain.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
