slightly closer to the top edge of the sheet than usual and also (2 ) the holes are too close together so you might tear the paper a bit if you put them on a zippered file folder, and (3) the paper doesn't slide decisively into the guide so you have to spend a few extra seconds to turn it around make sure it's straight before hitting it. But it's very compact with an attractive, slim design. It doesn't take up much space at all and doesn't irritate your eyes like a regular hole punch. You might even be able to adjust it perfectly and punch holes like you would with a stapler. For the space I have it in (on a counter full of electronic lab equipment) and the number of pages we need to punch (only 1 or 2 at a time), it does an excellent job.
