The small form factor makes the P5 a stylish accessory in my digital camera bag. With the P5, I can transfer data from an SDHC memory card in my digital camera at USB2.0 speeds. It has an elegant and stylish look. The P5 requires no cables. Since another reviewer pointed out that this P5 card reader only transfers data at USB1.1 speed (700-900 KB/s) and not at USB2.0 speed (12-15 MB/s), I have the following Transfer speed demos performed. I used a Transcend SDHC flash memory card (16GB) with 1.13GB files (3 MPEG-4 clips of 300MB each, 24 JPEG files of 1MB each). If reading this amount of data via Transcend card reader only works at USB1.1 speed, reading these files should take around 19 minutes. When reading data at USB2.0 speed, these files should take 1 to 2 minutes to read. In this test, the transfer of data from SDHC via the P5 to the MacBook Pro took exactly 60 seconds. This corresponds to an average transfer rate of 18.8 MB/s when reading. Obviously, the Transcend P5 card reader supports USB 2.0 high-speed data transfer. After deleting the files from the SDHC card, I measured how long it took to write back 1.13GB (same set of files) from the Macbook Pro. to a memory card. In this second test, the write transfer time for 1.13 GB was 105 seconds. This corresponds to an average transfer rate of 10.7 MB/s when writing. Obviously, the Transcend P5 card reader supports high-speed USB 2.0 data transfer in every direction. Why to buy: The USB interface makes this memory card reader compatible with almost every computer in the world. The P5 fits easily into my digital camera bag. Transmission speed is great!
