Review on CTA USB Cable Lock – Secure Your MacBook Air/Pro with USB Type A Port – Galvanized Steel Protection with Master Key Compatibility (LT-PL) by Josh Whitehead

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Difficult to use, but works well once you get the hang of the tricks; only for Mac laptops.

I just unpacked this lock and tried it out on my desk. I was a bit hesitant given the reviews about the lock being easy to pull out. I found out that there is a right side and a reverse side. When I inserted the lock into the USB port with the lock seam down (and the open side up) and pressed the button, the button sometimes clicked and snagged, and sometimes it didn't. But even if the button got stuck, the lock could easily be pulled out of its socket. However, with the seam up and the holes down, the button snaps in easily and the lock feels very snug on my laptop. I don't give it 5 stars because the hint with the instructions appears at the end where it's easy to miss. This should be the very first information. I've tried plugging this lock into a USB extender (i.e. not a Mac laptop) and when plugged in "right" it won't lock. As stated on the packaging, this is a Mac laptop lock**. Update it after actual use. Downgraded to 2 stars for 2 reasons: (1) Assembly difficulties: my poor thumb! The nail broke after repeatedly pressing the button to attach the lock. (2) Detachment difficulties: (a) When the key was inserted to the expected depth, I did not feel the expected resistance when turning the key. It can only twist and turn. (b) Turning the key does not appear to open the lock. Turning the key was enough, but the metal tab that hooked inside the USB port wouldn't disengage, preventing the lock from being removed. The solution is to move the lock body up and down and sometimes tap to loosen the shank. upset.
