They don't break because they're in a metal case.
If you attach them to another metal frame or object they can stay there for as long as you like, they also come with an adhesive pad so be careful when using. That way the magnet can stay but the sticky pad can fail if you force it to hold a little weight, I don't know how much because I don't use them for that purpose.
