Review on 5 11 Utility Short Sleeve 5X Large Men's Clothing and Shirts – Versatile Comfort for Plus-Sized Men by John Ford

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not the 5.11 quality of the past - not even close

I have been buying 5.11 products for years and wear these products every day in the service I have worked on during those years. In the last two years, however, the quality of the 5.11 Polo has fallen sharply. This was the first time I bought a general purpose polo instead of a tactical polo and the reason for this was that tactical polo shirts were very fast and tarnished very badly - to the point where black is often perceived as brown. A versatile polo shirt made from a cotton-polyester blend should have much better color fastness than a tactical polo shirt made entirely from cotton. That's partly true: Versatile polo shirts still fade (despite consistent use of a special detergent for dark fabrics and the right wash cycles according to the care instructions on the clothing labels), but they turn gray instead of brown. What's worse about the versatile polo shirt is that it doesn't have any plastic collar holders, so the collars don't roll off well despite the "no-roll collar". And to top it all off, the cotton/poly blend doesn't roll well and attracts dust, lint etc like nothing else. The shirts I bought just a few months ago look like they are many years old and need to be replaced. This is unsatisfactory for shirts priced above average, especially considering the cost of embroidery. I hate giving such bad reviews, especially for a product that was previously well above average. Let's hope 5.11 brings back the quality and value originally offered by their products. Until then I will be forced to look elsewhere and I am very sorry about that.
