Review on πŸš— Enhance Your Vehicle's Communication with Firestik SS-174 Stainless Steel Hood/Trunk Channel Mount by Javarie Brumfield

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fast ship. stainless steel Solid.

4 stars for now as I haven't installed it yet. Will be updated after installation and daily abuse. The packaging looks very nice. Proper separation of signal and ground planes. Appropriately sized crimp connectors for both. 4 sheet metal screws. And everything you see in the photos. The screws have large threads and are not "self-drilling/self-tapping" at first glance. All construction is stainless steel (even the bolt and washers) which is nice. The dry fit seems to go well with my 94 Sierra Hood lines. It's a pretty thick bracket, so I'm not too concerned about flex or warp. 1 month update: still going strong. I give 4 stars because the screws that come with it are rubbish. They didn't fit through, but pulled out so far from the sheet metal that I was able to remove them by hand after about 3 days. I replaced them with stainless steel screws and have had no problems since. Goes well with my spring and 4 foot Firestik fiberglass pole and the nylon connection spacers fit really well and isolate the signal from ground. I haven't run any power or signal measurements because I'm getting a solid 3-4 miles from where I am, which is good enough for everything I do. Mounted on the drivers side on my 94 Sierra k1500. It wobbles a bit when moving from side to side, but that's because my fender is old, not the bindings. So make sure you install it in a permanent place.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Good but not great
