The toaster heats up pretty quickly, the sides too, not directly to the burn, but noticeable. True, it cools down just as quickly, in a minute or two. Several roasting modes are convenient - you can both brown the bread for a sandwich and dry it into a cracker. In general, simple, functional, convenient. The crumb tray is a damn handy thing, although you still have to shake out the toaster by turning it over from time to time. The bread "shoots" low, a standard piece barely sticks out, but it does not scatter all over the table.
