Well they are bright. I installed them on my '65 Mustang. They are not dimmable but work perfectly! If you're familiar with the G1 Mustang's gauges, you know they're weak. No longer. Also, the light is white. Glowing originals have a golden glow. This, combined with blue lenses, creates a sort of faint green glow during the day. These white lights show the actual color of the blue lenses but are much brighter. If you want them to get darker then this is NOT for you. However, their brightness makes your gauges easy to read and clear without being overly bright. You are exactly right. installation advice; If your dashboard is original old, clean the inside edge of the hole where the fasteners fit. Cause: Aging corrosion can lead to improper grounding. You can install the socket in the back of the dash, clamp it and twist it left and right to improve contact. You will love these lanterns. I didn't find the tabs too small.
