I don't know what it is but it's not surgical steel or titanium or anything good for piercing. I have never, EVER, NEVER been annoyed by jewelry and my nose piercing was very painful. It's never hurt so much to put something in. But when I finally put it in and buckled it up, it looked so good that I foolishly bought another one in a different color. The next day my nose was red and bleeding around the piercing. I took it after the third day because it wasn't getting any better. I threw away the one I had my nose in and I'll be returning the one that's on the way now. As soon as I put another piece in, my nose calmed down. Still hurting but on the mend. Don't ever buy them again. I spoke to my piercer and she said that the hinged portion of clicker rings is not usually made of the same material as the rest of the ring so please be careful when purchasing hinged nose rings.
